McKenzie graduated magna cum laude from Lawrence University's double degree program with a B.A. in English (Creative Writing) and a B.Mus. in Violin Performance. She is an avid writer, editor, reader, and musician currently based in Boulder, CO.

During her time at Lawrence, McKenzie studied abroad at the Lawrence University London Centre and served as concertmaster of the Lawrence University Symphony Orchestra and president of Fiddlers of Lawrence University. She was also elected to the Pi Kappa Lambda music honors society. Due to her passion for chamber music and community engagement, McKenzie remained active within Decoda's Music for All program at Lawrence, performing at many community venues throughout her four years. She also traveled to Houston, TX on Lawrence's 2019 Presto! Tour as concertmaster of the New Music Ensemble. Her summer festivals include Credo Chamber Music Camp and the Decoda Skidmore Chamber Music Institute. She studied violin at Lawrence with Professor Wen-Lei Gu.

McKenzie worked for The Lawrentian newspaper as a staff writer in the Arts & Entertainment section during her college career. She also served as A&E Section Editor for one year. During her sophomore year, she was elected to the Lambda Sigma Honors Society.

McKenzie currently narrates audiobooks and works as an editor. She spends her free time writing her novel-in-progress.
